The All American and Totally Awesome Jon Lovitz

     Jon Lovitz is a funny guy.  I have always liked his comedy since I first saw him on Saturday Night Live as a kid.  He is a Democrat, I am an independent conservative.  Although we disagree on political views I have a great amount of respect for the man.  Recently he has been speaking out publicly that he opposes what the President is saying about the rich among other things.  In return he is getting blasted out of the water for it.  Jon is not backing down.  And he shouldn’t.  In an industry where any opinion opposed to the Hollywood majority is toxic to one’s career he is also very brave.  He is not towing the line and is speaking out with common sense.  He refuses to be muzzled.

This country was built on the foundation of people coming together for a greater good.  It seems in the last 20-30 years or so it is the opposite.  This quote I came across sums it up I think, even though the writer seems to have lost faith in us coming together again;

“As our society becomes more polarized it becomes more segregated. Not racially segregated but ideologically. As people’s diversity of opinion becomes more known less of what holds us together as a people is remembered and eventually it is forgotten all together. In the end that can only lead to the death of society as we know it and no one ever coming together in peace and harmony again.  This great society in America will die because the personal cause has now become more sacred than the unified whole.”  – Anonymous

Gravity is the only thing holding us together for the moment.  We need to have healthy common sense discussions about the issues.  Instead of ruthlessly demonizing those who are opposed to a view that is opposite of yours you might want to listen to what they have to say.  Learn about it.  Then come back with a reasoned defense or possibly learn they were a little closer to the truth than you were.  I think we will come apart as a people.  We will come apart because we are making a focused effort to find what makes you different from me and then we shamelessly vilify the person who is different.  Until we can grow up and work together as a people again we don’t have a chance to fix anything that is wrong with this country.  We have become a socially dysfunctional nation with an epidemic of Tourette ’s syndrome.

God bless America and God bless Jon Lovitz.
